How long does fire damage restoration take in Mesa?

Timeline depends on the fire's scope. A kitchen fire cleanup typically takes 5-7 days. Smoke damage without structural fire damage completes in 3-5 days. A whole-home fire restoration including structural repair can take 2-6 weeks. We provide a detailed timeline during the initial assessment.

Can smoke odor be completely removed?

Yes, with proper professional treatment using thermal fogging, hydroxyl generators, ozone treatment, and HEPA air scrubbing. We eliminate — not mask — smoke odor from all surfaces including drywall, carpet, insulation, HVAC ductwork, and furnishings.

Complete Fire & Smoke Damage Restoration in Mesa, AZ

Fire damage restoration is one of the most complex restoration disciplines — it involves structural assessment, hazardous material handling, soot chemistry, odor science, content cleaning, and construction rebuilding. At Damage Restoration Mesa AZ, we handle every phase under one roof, following IICRC S540 standards throughout. Our team includes FSRT-certified technicians who understand the unique characteristics of desert fire damage — from the way Mesa's dry air affects smoke migration patterns to the structural challenges that extreme heat and thermal shock cause in slab-on-grade foundations.

Whether you're dealing with a kitchen fire that stayed contained to one room or a whole-home fire that caused structural collapse, we provide the same methodical approach: stabilize the property, assess every surface and system, develop a detailed restoration plan, and execute it with daily updates and complete insurance documentation.

What's Included in Our Fire Damage Restoration Service

Emergency Board-Up & Property Securing

Within hours of the fire department's clearance, our crew arrives to secure your property. We board up broken windows, tarp damaged roofing, and secure compromised entry points. This prevents secondary damage from weather, vandalism, and animal intrusion — and is typically required by insurance policies to maintain coverage. We document all emergency securing work with photos for your claim.

Structural & Safety Assessment

Before any cleanup begins, our team performs a comprehensive structural assessment. Fire weakens framing, roof trusses, and load-bearing walls in ways that aren't always visible. We check for compromised electrical wiring, gas line integrity, and water damage from firefighting efforts. This assessment determines which areas are structurally sound for restoration versus which require demolition and reconstruction.

Soot & Smoke Residue Removal

Soot contains corrosive acids, carcinogens, and chemical compounds that continue damaging surfaces after the fire is out. Different fire types produce different soot: protein fires (kitchen) leave invisible but pungent residue; synthetic material fires produce sticky, black soot that bonds to surfaces; wood fires create dry, powdery soot. Our cleaning approach is tailored to the specific soot type using dry sponges, chemical sponges, alkaline cleaners, and specialized techniques for each surface material.

Smoke Odor Elimination

Smoke particles penetrate every porous material in a home — drywall, carpet, insulation, clothing, upholstery, and HVAC ductwork. We use multiple professional odor treatment methods:

Thermal fogging: Creates a deodorizing fog that penetrates the same spaces smoke did
Hydroxyl generators: Breaks down odor molecules at the chemical level using UV light
Ozone treatment: Oxidizes smoke residue in enclosed spaces (unoccupied only)
HEPA air scrubbing: Captures airborne soot and particles down to 0.3 microns
HVAC duct cleaning: Removes soot and residue from entire ventilation system

Content Pack-Out & Restoration

We catalog, photograph, and carefully remove salvageable personal belongings — clothing, electronics, documents, artwork, and furnishings. Items are transported to our climate-controlled facility for professional cleaning using ultrasonic cleaning, ozone treatment, or specialized dry cleaning methods. Every item is documented for insurance purposes, and we provide honest assessments of what can vs. cannot be restored.

Water Damage from Firefighting

An often-overlooked consequence of fire: the water used to extinguish it. Fire department hoses deliver hundreds of gallons per minute, saturating floors, walls, and foundations. This water must be extracted and the structure dried properly — otherwise you'll face mold growth on top of fire damage. We handle fire-related water damage simultaneously using the same IICRC S500 drying protocols we apply to standalone water events.

Structural Repair & Reconstruction

From drywall replacement and roof repair to complete room rebuilds, we handle all structural reconstruction in-house. Having one company manage the entire project — from emergency board-up through final paint and flooring — eliminates the coordination headaches and delays that come from juggling multiple contractors. It also keeps documentation consistent for your insurance claim.

Fire Damage Restoration Costs in Mesa

Fire restoration costs vary dramatically based on the fire's scope. Common ranges for Mesa homes:

Kitchen fire (contained): $3,000-$8,000 — soot cleaning, odor treatment, cabinet/surface restoration
Single room fire: $5,000-$15,000 — including structural repair and content cleaning
Smoke damage (no structural fire): $2,000-$6,000 — surface cleaning, odor treatment, HVAC cleaning
Major structural fire: $15,000-$75,000+ — complete reconstruction, systems replacement, content restoration

Most fire damage is covered by homeowner's insurance including additional living expenses (ALE) if you need temporary housing. We provide detailed estimates and bill insurance directly in most cases.

Mesa-Specific Fire Risks

Mesa's environment creates unique fire damage patterns. Summer temperatures exceeding 115°F stress electrical systems, leading to wiring failures and appliance fires. The extreme dryness makes materials more combustible. Older Mesa homes (pre-1990s) in neighborhoods like Dobson Ranch, Downtown Mesa, and Lehi may have outdated electrical panels and wiring that increase fire risk. Desert landscaping with dried brush near homes creates wildfire ember vulnerability, especially in hillside communities like Las Sendas.

Yes. Virtually all homeowner's insurance policies cover fire damage including structural repair, smoke cleanup, content restoration, and additional living expenses (ALE) for temporary housing. We work directly with all major Arizona insurers and handle complete claim documentation, billing insurance directly in most cases.

Yes, with professional equipment. We use thermal fogging, hydroxyl generators, ozone treatment, and HEPA air scrubbing to eliminate smoke odor at the molecular level — not just mask it. The key is treating every porous surface: drywall, carpet, insulation, HVAC ducts, and soft furnishings.

Do not re-enter until the fire department confirms the structure is safe. Even after clearance, soot residue contains carcinogens. We recommend limiting access until initial professional cleanup is completed, especially for children, elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions.

After the fire department clears the property: 1) Contact your insurance company to open a claim. 2) Call us at (480) 907-0441 for emergency board-up and assessment. 3) Do not attempt cleanup yourself — disturbing soot can cause further damage. 4) Keep all receipts for temporary housing and personal expenses. 5) Document everything with photos from a safe distance.

Many items can be professionally restored — clothing, electronics, documents, artwork, and furniture. We perform content pack-out, catalog every item with photos, and use ultrasonic cleaning, ozone treatment, and dry cleaning methods. We provide honest assessments of salvageability before investing restoration effort in any item.
